Málaga har i de siste ti årene utviklet seg til en av landets mest dynamiske provinser. I dag har Málaga-provinsen nøyaktig 1.683.271 innbyggere, hvilket er 116.604 fler enn for ti år siden. Det er bare Madrid, Barcelona og De Baleariske Øyer som har hatt en større befolkningsvekst. De nye innbyggerne i Málaga-provinsen kommer primært fra andre steder i Spania, samt fra England, Tyskland, Marokko og Argentina.
